Team for Man Utd League Cup
|
Of course, Moyes will say that we're taking this competition seriously, but what that means in terms of team selection is anyone's guess. Man U will presumably put out a second-string side, but that's not difficult with the squad they've got.
I'm expecting a lot of changes, but not to the extent of playing youngsters like Okoflex, though one or two might come off the bench. Or does he populate the bench with heavyweights in case they are needed? What about Antonio? Does he get a game here or will he be saved for the next PL game?
Surely it's time to give debuts to Areola and Kral. Starts expected for all the squad players that aren't usually in the starting lineup. Another start for Vlasic to help to get him up to speed.
Areola Fredericks Dawson Diop Johnson Noble Kral Lanzini Yarmolenko Vlasic Masuaku
Subs: Randolph, Coufal, Longelo, Zouma, Soucek, Benrahma, Okoflex, Fornals, Antonio.

Taking the trenches / war metaphor a little further is Yarmalenko is akin to Sergeant Wilson in Dads Army with his work rate, level of alertness and general attitude.
Arfur would be the equivalent of Jonesy ( when he is defending inside his own box with shouts of "dont panic!!" as he does a drag back and Cryuff turns before giving it away ) Lanzini ? He tries hard to get stuck in but is as lightweight as Godfrey in the tackle.

Leroy. Bit harsh on Lanzini. He was getting well stuck in against Zagreb. Arthur doesn't lack effort just a brain.
Agree on Yarma. He's fucking ball shy.

Mirror are predicting this line up for Man Utd:
Heaton; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Bailly, Dalot; McTominay, Van de Beek; Sancho, Lingard, Mata; Martial.

I disagree. Always a lot of top clubs around in the later stages of this competion. FA Cup is much easier. I also recon we've a good chance in the Europa League or Conference if we drop out.
With the thin squad and all these mid-week matches if there's one game to throw it's this game.

He will probably go with 3 goalkeepers on the bench. Roll on Saturday and hopefully 3 points.

I'd largely agree with that team.
I might put oko flex rather than lazy cunt yarmalenko.
And have Antonio, fabianski and soucek on the bench. I don't want to see Randolph even on the bench.

This is a game where I would rest key players (ones that have played in the Euro's and players like Antonio who we can't afford to lose through injury or burn out).
The Premier League and Europa League are the prioritiy competitons for me.
For this competiion we should use the squad and also give younger players some experience of being amongst the first team

Id like to see us have a proper go in this as the reality is it's our best chance of winning something, and it gets you into Europe. Look how happy Man City have been winning this recently. Think Ole will take it seriously, as he needs a trophy.

Leeds only dropped four players last night. Given their injury problems I'd have expected they'd just play the kids

Leeds taken all the way to penalties. Not played a full first team unfortunately, but should still be tired.
We ought to rest players for the weekend.

Agree with the exile.... Antonio needs to be kept match fit. I'd give him 45 mins and then bring Vlasic on for second half.
Arelo Fredericks Dawson Diop Johnson Kral Noble Bowen Lanzini Masuaku Antonio / Vlasic

Mex Maybe a bit mental. But not as mental as playing Yarmolenko. Okoflex will not start as he played last night

Daveyg Is that Ben Johnson in attack? That’s just mental when we have young forwards and Yarmolenko.

I'm going for a bit of something out there. Moyes is totally pissed off with Yarmolenko and won't risk Antonio.
Areloa
Fredericks Diop Dawson Masuaku
Noble Lanzini Kral
Vlasic Johnson Bowen
Vlasic won't play more than 70 min again. Moyes slowly giving him games rather just minutes.
